I’ve gone down a dangerous trail regarding these Maker’s Mark Private Select picks. As I've already developed an insatiable taste for all things delicious booze I can add another subset into the mix. I'M CALLING FOR HELP AND NOBODY IS RESPONDING EXCEPT LIQUOR STORES FEEDING ME LIKE A DRUG ADDICT...
This bottle hails from Longhorn Liquor in Beaumont, TX (about 45 minutes from yours truly) which is a, plainly put, badass store. If you want something rare or extremely high end this is your answer. This bro showcased a 72 year Macallan which...I mean...whatever, man. Can't even right now. Anyway, to understand the whole stave process with Maker's Mark read HERE. This one is 3 Baked American Pure 2, 2 Maker's 46 and 5 Toasted French Spice.
The nose was extremely potent with those Maker's 46 and French Spice staves - it almost knocked ya back (in a good way). After letting it rest a bit the nose really came through with Irish Coffee, black pepper and cinnamon. In da mouf I got a soft butter cream, dried berries (ever so slightly) and the most frustrating dark chocolate / vanilla combo ever. It was like a damn neopolitan without those lame ass strawberries. The mouthfeel was exceptional at essentially 110 proof and gripped the whole mouth like it was its bitch.
Overall it's an excellent pick. The nose is slightly harsh but pleasant once you recover in the hospital. As always I'm squinting at the price tag of $70 but I don't mind paying a bit extra for the personal touch - just call me Robert Kraft.
