2016 Hahn SLH Pinot Noir Review
There are times in life when you begin to question your existence, purpose and drive due to an overwhelming experience - this is not one of those times. I hate writing these types of reviews because I appreciate the art that is alcohol and the passion these producers have to bringing the world their vision. Sometimes people need Lasek though.
This wine was not good. The Meg liked it and that's fine but she's not a professionally trained liar like me. The nose was unpleasant - had an almost vinegar/cheese smell to it. I wondered if it needed to air so I let it chill out a bit but it just never went away. The taste was bitter with harsh notes of chalk and mushrooms - maybe this bottle was exposed to heat? Who knows.
Because you've watched my How to Pick Wine video you know that it's important to be consistent in the way you pick. This wine had everything going for it - a 90 rating from Wine Spectator, $30, bland ass label without stupid hipster art, etc. The one thing I think I missed is it was a California Pinot AND I TEND TO FAVOR THE ONES FROM WASHINGTON AND OREGON SO DARRYL SHOULDA KNOWN!
As Bob Ross states, "There are no mistakes but sometimes you're bad in life and you should OD" and I fully appreciate that quote here. I had to make this mistake to learn that I will stick to certain regions for certain wine. This will ultimately save me money, time and tears while I watch This is Us with my male support group, "Crying With Balls."
Anyway - don't buy this wine unless you like bad wine.
